In-home dog training · Malden & Greater Boston

In-Home Dog Trainingin Malden, MA

Reward-based, in-home training on your real streets — from Malden Center to Fellsmere.

Most Malden dogs aren’t badly behaved. They’re under-taught in the one place it counts — a triple-decker stairwell, a tight pass on Pleasant Street, the Northern Strand trail when the bikes come through, Fellsmere Park with three dogs already loose. A trainer comes to your home, works with your dog on your floors and your block, and coaches you so the training holds after we leave.

Behavior Modification

Our Philosophy

We train dogs in Malden in a way that actually works.

At Good Dog Boston, we believe a dog should be a friend and a companion, not a chore. Whether you have a young pup, an older dog or a rescue, Good Dog Boston can help them learn how to behave appropriately at home and on-the-go.

Malden is dense, walkable and full of dogs: two- and three-families shoulder to shoulder, a busy downtown around the Orange Line, and the Fells right at the northern edge. Your dog is fine in the apartment. It is the stairwell, the pass on a narrow sidewalk, or the trail with an off-leash dog charging up that turns into a battle. That is not a broken dog. That is a normal dog in a busy city who has never been taught what to do instead.

Good Dog Boston trains dogs in Malden the way Malden actually works: in your home and on your real streets and trails, using reward-based methods. We do not run a facility you drive to. We come to you, because the corner where your dog reacts is the corner where the training has to happen.

We understand that every dog is unique, and we tailor and adapt our services to ensure your success. Spanish-speaking trainers are available. Every engagement starts with a free evaluation call, so you know exactly what you are paying for before you commit.

Training that fits a dense city with the Fells next door

Malden dogs live two lives — apartment and sidewalk during the week, the Fells and Pine Banks on the weekend — and a dog who charges every dog on the trail is not going to walk politely down Salem Street. We build the leash walk first, on your streets, with distance and timing, then take it to Fellsmere and the Fells where the distractions are real. Reactivity is usually fear, not aggression; the fix is a clear job to do when the trigger appears, not a firmer correction.

Where we practice in Malden

  • Fellsmere Park and Fellsmere Pond — a compact loop with open lawn, so you can work at a distance and close the gap only when your dog is ready.
  • The Middlesex Fells from the Fellsway — miles of trails on the city’s doorstep, the real test for recall and calm greetings.
  • Pine Banks Park — wooded paths and fields on the Melrose line for long-line recall work.
  • The Northern Strand Community Trail — long, straight and shared with bikes: ideal for rehearsing calm passes.
  • Malden Center and Pleasant Street — the station, the shops and café tables for real sidewalk manners once the basics hold.

Your own block counts too. If the hard part of your day is the stairwell or the stretch between your door and the Orange Line, that is where we train.

Reactive dog · Downtown Boston

I would recommend Good Dog Boston to anyone! Our trainer Jeff was patient, kind, and extremely helpful when working with us and our dog Miley. Miley struggles with reactivity triggered by other dogs and living in downtown Boston makes avoiding other dogs nearly impossible. Jeff provided a tiered program which laid the ground work for Miley’s basic obedience and built up to working through her reactivity issues. We have already seen huge improvement in Miley’s behavior and all thanks goes to Good Dog Boston! Also shoutout to Jeff’s furry assistants: Danny, Halo, & Doctor for being the good-est boys and helping their friend Miley with her manners! Truly a 5 star experience!

Labradoodle puppy

We couldn’t be happier with our experience working with Jeff and his training program. We enrolled our labradoodle puppy in the puppy program at 5 months old, and it made a world of difference. Jeff helped us navigate and correct those early, unwanted puppy behaviors while building a solid foundation of training that’s stuck with our pup ever since. Jeff is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he’s also clearly passionate about what he does. His approach is effective, thoughtful, and tailored—and the results speak for themselves. Our puppy is now a well-behaved city dog we’re proud to take anywhere. On top of that, Jeff is responsive, flexible, and genuinely a pleasure to work with.

Reactive adolescent spitz

We were having trouble training our adolescent spitz, who was quickly becoming quite reactive/aggressively territorial on regular walks around the neighborhood. We’re so grateful that we had the chance to work with Jeff at Good Dog Boston — though we’d read a handful of books and watched a few videos about how to work with reactive dogs, there’s nothing quite like having someone with a great deal of experience point out to you the specific tools to use and nuanced cues in your specific dog’s behavior to watch out for. Jeff was wonderful — worked with our busy schedules (and the weather), clearly excellent/fond of dogs, highly results-driven, and he gave us customized “homework” to do. Walking him is now pleasant instead of embarrassing and stressful.

Malden dog training — common questions

Do you come to my home in Malden?
Yes — every lesson is in your home and on your own street. That is the point: a triple-decker stairwell, a narrow sidewalk and a busy crosswalk are where your dog actually has to behave, and none of them resemble a training hall. We work in apartment hallways, lobbies and elevators as readily as in living rooms.
What does dog training cost in Malden?
Flat pricing, quoted before you book. Puppy training is $1,199 for five sessions; adult dog obedience is $1,799 for seven. Behavior modification for reactive or anxious dogs is quoted after the free evaluation call, because the plan depends on the dog. Any travel cost for your address is confirmed on that same call, never after.
Where do you practice around Malden?
Wherever your dog struggles — Malden Center, Edgeworth, Maplewood, Linden, Bellrock, Forestdale, Faulkner, West End, Ferryway. We train on the route you actually walk, at the time of day you actually walk it, not a quiet substitute for it.
Do you work with reactive dogs?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do in a city this dense. Lunging and barking on leash, guarding, fear of strangers or traffic, and separation problems are all handled through reward-based behavior modification — the cases group classes usually turn away. Tell us honestly what happens on your walks and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
How soon can we start, and do you speak Spanish?
Most families start within a week or two of the evaluation call, and a trainer calls you back within 24 hours of your enquiry. Entrenadores hispanohablantes — también atendemos en español.
