House training, crate confidence, socialization done safely, no jumping or nipping, and the leash foundation that stops reactivity before it starts. Get the first six months right and the next two years are easy.

Best for dogs who know “sit” indoors and ignore you outdoors
Recall that works at distance, loose-leash walking past distractions, heel, watch, drop-it, and impulse control. The program for adolescent dogs who have stopped listening.

Best for lunging, growling, resource guarding, biting, severe anxiety
Reactivity and aggression are almost always fear. Done wrong, behavior work makes them worse — most failures come from a misread of the cause, not a lack of effort. We assess what’s actually driving it before we touch the behavior.

We teach at your home and in your own neighborhood — the same sidewalks, elevators, cafés and T stops where your dog actually needs to behave. A dog that is perfect in a training hall and impossible outside Harvard Square has not learned very much.
We also cover Belmont, Everett, Malden, Newton, Lexington, Waltham, Winchester, Woburn, Melrose, Revere, Chelsea and Winthrop. Travel costs may apply outside the Boston Metro area.
I would recommend Good Dog Boston to anyone! Our trainer Jeff was patient, kind, and extremely helpful when working with us and our dog Miley. Miley struggles with reactivity triggered by other dogs and living in downtown Boston makes avoiding other dogs nearly impossible. Jeff provided a tiered program which laid the ground work for Miley’s basic obedience and built up to working through her reactivity issues. We have already seen huge improvement in Miley’s behavior and all thanks goes to Good Dog Boston! We couldn’t be happier with our experience working with Jeff and his training program. We enrolled our labradoodle puppy in the puppy program at 5 months old, and it made a world of difference. We were having trouble training our adolescent spitz, who was quickly becoming quite reactive/aggressively territorial on regular walks around the neighborhood. We’re so grateful that we had the chance to work with Jeff at Good Dog Boston — there’s nothing quite like having someone with a great deal of experience point out the specific tools to use and nuanced cues in your dog’s behavior to watch out for. Walking him is now pleasant instead of embarrassing and stressful.
Our programs are flat-priced: $1,499 for six puppy sessions, $2,199 for eight adult obedience sessions, $2,499 for eight behavior modification sessions. That’s the whole cost — no per-session add-ons. Custom equipment or needs occasionally adjust cost, but this is uncommon. Travel fees may apply outside the Boston Metro area.
Yes. All lessons are private and in-home, plus the streets and parks you actually walk. We serve Cambridge, Boston and most of Greater Boston.
Rarely. Most reactivity is fear and most of it improves with the right assessment and a plan that keeps the dog under threshold. The evaluation call is free — start there.
Owners typically see change within the first two or three sessions. Lasting change depends on what you practice between them — you are the biggest factor in your dog’s success.
No. We train reward-based — no prong collars, no shock/e-collars, no punishment-first methods. It’s not just a philosophy, it’s what actually holds up on a Boston sidewalk with real distractions.
That’s most of who we work with. Group classes are built for dogs who can already hold focus in a room full of strangers — reactive, distractible, or anxious dogs usually need one-on-one work in the real environment first. In-home, private lessons are built for exactly that dog.
