In-Home Dog Trainingin Woburn, MA

Reward-based, in-home training on your real streets — from the Center to Horn Pond.

Most Woburn dogs aren’t badly behaved. They’re under-taught in the one place it counts — the loop at Horn Pond on a Sunday with a dog every fifty feet, the front door of a house on a busy street, a tight sidewalk pass in the Center, the woods at Shaker Glen when something bolts. A trainer comes to your home, works with your dog on your floors, your yard and your block, and coaches you so the training holds after we leave.

Dog walking on a loose leash along a Woburn neighborhood street

Our Philosophy

We train dogs in Woburn in a way that actually works.

At Good Dog Boston, we believe a dog should be a friend and a companion, not a chore. Whether you have a young pup, an older dog or a rescue, Good Dog Boston can help them learn how to behave appropriately at home and on-the-go.

Woburn is a real neighborhood city — single-family streets, kids, fences, and one of the most-walked dog loops in the area at Horn Pond. Fences teach dogs to patrol; Horn Pond asks them to walk calmly past a hundred other dogs. Your dog is fine at home. It is the pond loop, or the walk past the neighbor’s fence, that turns into a wrestling match. That is not a broken dog. That is a normal dog who has never been shown what to do instead.

Good Dog Boston trains dogs in Woburn the way Woburn actually works: in your home, in your yard and on your real streets, using reward-based methods. We do not run a facility you drive to. We come to you, because the fence line where your dog barks and the corner where he pulls are where the training has to happen.

We understand that every dog is unique, and we tailor and adapt our services to ensure your success. Spanish-speaking trainers are available. Every engagement starts with a free evaluation call, so you know exactly what you are paying for before you commit.

Training that fits fences, yards and Horn Pond

A yard is a gift and a trap: dogs who spend the day reacting to everything that passes the fence bring that habit onto the leash. In Woburn we work on both — calm at the boundary of your property, and calm on the loop at Horn Pond, where the sheer number of dogs makes it the best and hardest training ground in town. Reactivity here is usually frustration or fear, and the fix is distance, timing and a clear job to do when a trigger appears.

Where we practice in Woburn

  • Horn Pond — the big loop, with wide stretches for distance work and pinch points for real passes once your dog is ready.
  • Shaker Glen and Whispering Hill — wooded trails with sightlines that let you step the difficulty up or down mid-walk.
  • Mary Cummings Park — open fields on the Burlington line for long-line recall away from the pond crowds.
  • Woburn Center and the Common — shops, traffic and the library steps for real sidewalk manners.
  • Library Field and your neighborhood streets — ordinary blocks with fences and front doors, which is where most of the real work happens.

Your own street counts too. If the hard part of your day is the front door, the fence line, or the walk to Horn Pond, that is where we train.

Reactive dog · Downtown Boston

I would recommend Good Dog Boston to anyone! Our trainer Jeff was patient, kind, and extremely helpful when working with us and our dog Miley. Miley struggles with reactivity triggered by other dogs and living in downtown Boston makes avoiding other dogs nearly impossible. Jeff provided a tiered program which laid the ground work for Miley’s basic obedience and built up to working through her reactivity issues. We have already seen huge improvement in Miley’s behavior and all thanks goes to Good Dog Boston! Also shoutout to Jeff’s furry assistants: Danny, Halo, & Doctor for being the good-est boys and helping their friend Miley with her manners! Truly a 5 star experience!

Labradoodle puppy

We couldn’t be happier with our experience working with Jeff and his training program. We enrolled our labradoodle puppy in the puppy program at 5 months old, and it made a world of difference. Jeff helped us navigate and correct those early, unwanted puppy behaviors while building a solid foundation of training that’s stuck with our pup ever since. Jeff is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he’s also clearly passionate about what he does. His approach is effective, thoughtful, and tailored—and the results speak for themselves. Our puppy is now a well-behaved city dog we’re proud to take anywhere. On top of that, Jeff is responsive, flexible, and genuinely a pleasure to work with.

Reactive adolescent spitz

We were having trouble training our adolescent spitz, who was quickly becoming quite reactive/aggressively territorial on regular walks around the neighborhood. We’re so grateful that we had the chance to work with Jeff at Good Dog Boston — though we’d read a handful of books and watched a few videos about how to work with reactive dogs, there’s nothing quite like having someone with a great deal of experience point out to you the specific tools to use and nuanced cues in your specific dog’s behavior to watch out for. Jeff was wonderful — worked with our busy schedules (and the weather), clearly excellent/fond of dogs, highly results-driven, and he gave us customized “homework” to do. Walking him is now pleasant instead of embarrassing and stressful.

Woburn dog training — common questions

Do you come to my home in Woburn?
Yes — every lesson is in your home and on your own street. That is the point: a triple-decker stairwell, a narrow sidewalk and a busy crosswalk are where your dog actually has to behave, and none of them resemble a training hall. We work in apartment hallways, lobbies and elevators as readily as in living rooms.
What does dog training cost in Woburn?
Flat pricing, quoted before you book. Puppy training is $1,199 for five sessions; adult dog obedience is $1,799 for seven. Behavior modification for reactive or anxious dogs is quoted after the free evaluation call, because the plan depends on the dog. Any travel cost for your address is confirmed on that same call, never after.
Where do you practice around Woburn?
Wherever your dog struggles — Woburn Center, North Woburn, West Woburn, East Woburn, Montvale, Four Corners, Central Square. We train on the route you actually walk, at the time of day you actually walk it, not a quiet substitute for it.
Do you work with reactive dogs?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do in a city this dense. Lunging and barking on leash, guarding, fear of strangers or traffic, and separation problems are all handled through reward-based behavior modification — the cases group classes usually turn away. Tell us honestly what happens on your walks and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
How soon can we start, and do you speak Spanish?
Most families start within a week or two of the evaluation call, and a trainer calls you back within 24 hours of your enquiry. Entrenadores hispanohablantes — también atendemos en español.
